Our school continues its excellence as its face continues to change a bit. The expansion on the cafeteria is almost finished, and it looks super. Stephanie Mickey chose to return to the math classroom and leave the vice-principaling to James Hollomon. He is proving to be a capable administrator and plays as dirty during Secret Santa week as any of the rest of us! Former student teacher Jill Stanish has joined our faculty in the English Department. Our mentoring program, AEP, etc. is taken care of by Placido Garcia and Ed Miller. We finally have a full-time junior high counselor, Jinny Harris. Her resume includes being a vocalist for the Air Force Band of the West! Our new faculty members are proving to be great additions. Retirees last year included Annette Ward (math) and Jan Ballman (PE).
One neat thing we have accomplished on campus is to open a Friday Air Force Federal Credit Union (formerly LFCU) branch. We took applications from grades 7-12; they were interviewed by the executive secretary of the credit union who then hired, trained, and now works with them each Friday during lunch and advisory. Students in grades 7-12 may join and make deposits into their accounts on a regular basis. It has been a great experience for its "employees" and customers. The credit union has also provided scholarship money to the school for several years. They are a great business partner.
Hope all is well with you. Mark your calendars and come see us next month.
Cordially yours,
Mrs. Cynthia Lyon
