Dear Exes:

First, let me say "thanks" to those who responded to the questionnaire in the spring. We received many questionnaires, notes, and several photos from folks who are gone but certainly not forgotten. We have enjoyed them!

Although I sent you a newsletter last year, more changes have occurred. Last spring the Board voted to hire a new superintendent, Virginia Stacey. We were thrilled! Pat Havel, my next-door-teaching-neighbor (math) is the new Vice Principal--that s working out great, too. We have several new teachers this year--Mrs. Wann replaced Mrs. Havel in math; Mrs. Barajas replaced the last history teacher, Miss Stelmach (who had replaced Mrs. O'Connell); Mike Demchsak is a new English teacher; the new computer literacy teacher is Mrs. Stahl; and the alternative education program (AEP) is owned and operated by Mr. Wofford. Nancy Clayton joined us last spring to reorganize the band program, and she has made a lot of progress. We are also in the midst of organizing (or reorganizing!) a gifted/talented program for grades 7-12. It will begin with Language Arts and expand into other program areas.

Homecoming is right around the corner. The student council is making plans to host the big event January 19, 1991. The game is Friday, January 18, at 5 p.m. (JV-Varsity boys) against Keystone. The dance Saturday night will be held at the Lackland Officers Club from 8-12 p.m. The theme is "Nothing is Going to Stop Us." Cost of the-tickets is $10/single and $19/ couple (includes hors d'oeuvres and coke bar). A photographer will be available. Tickets are available through Mrs. Frawley and the council.

Some of you asked for classmates' addresses. If you are interested in particular classmates/class lists/addresses, please send your request along with a stamped, self-addresses envelope. I recently returned home for my 20-year reunion (I graduated at age 12!!), and it was better than wonderful. We would be very excited to see a group of you show up on our doorstep any time, and I think you would be glad you did!

Anyway, put the homecoming weekend on your social calendar, and let us hear from you.

Cordially yours,

Mrs. Cynthia Lyon

I owe ex-student Jim Jones a giant thank you for organizing all the addresses on his computer and printing computer labels for us. He says it is nothing, but he has worked hard and has been very helpful. I appreciate his time and effort in helping us stay in touch with you!

Dear Lackland Alum,

My name is Jim Jones, Class of ‘75, and the self-appointed Alumni Liaison for Lackland High School (only because I had a computer program that did address labels). First, I would like to wish you the happiest and safest of Holidays, and I hope Santa is good to you this year--I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

But the real reason I'm writing to you is to personally extend an invitation to the Lackland High School Homecoming basketball game and dance. In the past 15 years, the attendance by alumni to the Homecoming festivities has been extremely low compared to the number of alumni we have. The school does their very best to put on a nice function for us, but only a few of the alumni ever show up. Hopefully, we can change this.

The Homecoming is the perfect time to catch up on old friends, find out who’s doing what nowadays, and to see our former teachers. I like to go just to see if old Mr. Martin can still get up and around. In any case, it's a lot of fun when a bunch of us can get together and talk and laugh about the good times we had at Lackland. I hope that we will see you there this year.

Before I sign off, I'd like to tell you that I have an almost complete list of all the addresses of the Lackland graduates, and trying to include phone numbers, spouse and children information, etc. If you would like to contact someone from Lackland or update your own information, please jot me a line and send it to me or Mrs. Lyon in care of LHS. I can promise you I'll do my best to get you the information you need as fast as I can.

Again, Happy Holidays, and I truly hope to see you at the Homecoming.

Sincerely,

Jim Jones, ‘75
