Lackland Junior-Senior High School
December 9, 1991
Dear Exes:
"THANX" to all of you who have stayed in touch with notes, pictures, calls, and visits. I do share all these goodies with the faculty, and we always love hearing from you.
Once again, a few changes have taken place. Our basketball team enjoyed using the new gym last season--so much, in fact, that they won District! The winning spirit stretched on into this fall as our "Lady Eagles" enjoyed a winning season as well in volleyball.
Last summer, Mr. Martin (after almost 100 years in the high school!) accepted a new district position, Administrative Assistant to Superintendent Stacey. Our new principal, John Poole, came to us from the Boerne ISD north of San Antonio. He is a former teacher and administrator and is very student-oriented. He has proven himself to be supportive of academics as well as athletics--and gives the students a grin as he rides away on his motorcycle! Gary Madden, our new computer literacy/life science teacher, took Judy Stahl's place. She is now the elementary school's. new vice principal with Principal Edwinna Janert.
Three new courses are now in place in the high school: Microcomputer Applications (DeGeus),-Advanced Social Science Problems (Merrell), and the Gifted/Talented courses for grades 7-12 (Lyon) known as TALON--Talented Achievers Leading Our Nation.
The student council is actively working on homecoming and plans to host the big events January 10-11, 1992. The game is Friday at 5:00 (JV-Varsity boys) against Lytle, a good district opponent. The dance Saturday will be held at the Lackland Officers Club from 8-12 p.m. The theme is "Everything I Do (I Do For You)." Costs of the tickets is $11/ single and $22/couple (includes hors d'oeuvres and coke bar). A photographer will be available. Tickets are available through Mrs. Frawley and the student council.
As you can see from the newspaper article on the back (from the Talon, our school paper), reporter Johnna White made sure everyone knows you all exist! I certainly appreciated the publicity.
Once again, thanx to Jim Jones, Class of '75, for his continuing assistance with our correspondence. As the number of alumni grows, so does the importance of Jim and his computer!
If you are interested in classmates/class lists/addresses, please send your request along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Also, consider reunion groups--they're a barrel of fun. Make your plans to attend homecoming. Several did last year, and we had some great visits. Drop us a note and tell us what's going on in your life.
Cordially yours,
Mrs. Cynthia Lyon

Alumnus keep in contact
The Class of 1975 were the first class members to graduate from Lackland High School. Since its first class many Lackland graduates have gone on to bigger and better things.
An alumni file was started to keep on Lackland students as they progress in the "real world". The upkeep of the alumni records was set up by Cynthia Lyon, LHS typing and personal business teacher, about five years ago.
Helping Lyon is Jim Jones, a 1975 graduate of LHS, who is now a San Antonio Police Officer. Alumni are sent newsletters telling what is new at Lackland and invite them back for Homecoming activites.
Lyon likes to keep up with the alumni. "It shows me how well they are doing and how successful they've become," says Lyon. Last year Lackland had five previous students in Desert Storm. Lt. James "Chainsaw" McCullough, Class of '79, one of the Desert Storm servers, was excited to get back home in June just before his wife had their first baby. McCullough shares his joys with Lyon and says he's doing all right.
A more recent graduate, Stephanie Jo Warner, Class of '90, keeps close touch with Lyon and tells her Lackland friends to watch for her on the "Wonder Years" and "Life Goes On."
