A fall "Hello" to our Exes!
The school year has gotten off to a good start - very early this year, I might add - the faculty returned August 3. Several of us experienced hospital "visits" over the summer; several vacationed in Colorado; and quite a few attended workshops, training sessions, and other professional development activities. We have found out this fall that the ENTIRE school is once again EXEMPLERY according to the Texas Education Agency - Yea!
We have had several very sad losses within the last year. Sheri Sparks-Maxwell (Class of '75) passed away December 1998. Leslie Racey (Class of '96) was killed this fall. Both ladies will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by friends, family, and faculty. Also, just last month Eric Kelps (Class of '99) was killed in an automobile accident. Eric was working part-time here for Lackland as a technology "guru" and attending college part-time. We were proud of our student body and the tribute given to him in the senior hall as well as an assembly to celebrate his life. Once again, our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
As always, a few changes in faculty have occurred. Amy Stewart and Heather Wood were replaced by two Northside middle school teachers, Kelly Long and Nicole James. Both seem very happy to join us at Stacey Junior High School. Our new band director came from Harlandale ISD, Jack Jones. He keeps up entertained at lunchtime with his jokes and tales about music people. The district added a second counselor, Penny Abbott, who has been in the elementary school here for several years. She works with Mrs. Rue to keep that area running smoothly. We also have a new vice principal, Marcia Dockendorf, from Northside ISD. Mr. Reaves left to become a superintendent at a small private school.
I blew an opportunity lost year by not asking you for your e-mail addresses. We would like to develop a directory with addresses that we could share with others upon request. Send me your home, school, and/or work addresses if you wouldn't mind making them available to others. You can reach anyone here at school by using their lost name, first initial (except for Mrs. Stacey--her last name only!). My e-mail address is:
lyon.cklackland.k12.tx.us
Let teachers hear from you and find out what you are up to. We love it!
There are a couple of web-sites in which you might be interested--one costs money, and one appears not to when you register. Some of you may be interested in contacting each other that way. Explore them and see what you think:

Homecoming will be special for all of us in January 2000; it's the 25th anniversary of the first graduating class - the Class of '75. Seems hard to believe if you're from that era! We hope you can plan to come see us in January 2000.

A couple of things I forgot:
Mr. Alex Martinez is our new behavior specialist in the district. He works closely with Mr. Spoor across the hall.
"My" pharmacist at Albertsons in Helotes is Wendy Davis Still, Class of 1991. What a super surprise the first time I ran into her and what a good feeling to have her take care of me and my family!
To those of you that have called and/or stopped by for visits,
THANX, WE LOVE ITI
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
