MEMORY OF MR. HALL
Noble, tall, handsome intellectual….
Mr. Hall could read. It was those readings in class that that gave us a love for literature. He made Poe come alive in our classroom.
Mr. Hall could inspire. I cannot tell you how many classics in my personal library came from his recommendation. I cannot tell you how many times I have stopped in my tracks and thanked Mr. Hall for inspiring me to always strive be a student of the highest caliber.
Mr. Hall could teach. I carry his techniques to class with me as a professor in the local university. I carry his lessons in English and Spanish with me every day. I can still speak Spanish.
Mr. Hall can create a smile from thin air. Ask any former student from Lackland who the most influential high school teacher was. For those of us that traveled the world and saw dozens or perhaps hundreds of teachers, there still is only one.
Mr. Hall could save you’re a--. Thank you for rescuing me from Mr. Martin an uncountable number of times. If not for you, I think I would still be in detention.
I do not know whether the greatest influence came from the classroom time or the extracurricular time. I do know that I would not exchange one lesson from Mr. Hall for a dozen with any other teacher.
I cannot believe that I once called you a freak, and thought it was a compliment! Furthermore, I cannot believe that you still remember a silly comment like that. Please forget it!
WHAT I AM DOING NOW
I have two lovely children: Alaina and Landon. I teach astronomy at the local college, and I have more education than perhaps anyone would have guessed. I currently run two businesses and have built several others. I love to read, write, climb mountains and travel the world. When I travel, I speak Spanish. I will always remember and love my friend, mentor and professor: Mr. Hall.
