John Smith

 

John Burton Smith went home to the Lord on November 19, 2006 at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patricia Gail Smith, his three beautiful daughters; Debra (and Garrett) Rice, Patricia (and Fernando DeLeon), Suzanne (and Michael) Margo, grandson Grant Alan Rice, Aunt Rose Burton, cousins; Jay Burton and Meri Alexander and their families, mother-in-law Maude Schmitt, sister-in-law Judy Schmitt, neice Shannon Schmitt and other family members.

John has created a lifetime of loving memories for his family as a caring and patient husband and devoted provider to his three daughters. To his grandson, Papaw will always be the most amazing person in the world. John was an avid science and nature lover, regarded by his family and friends as a man with a contagious sense of humor. He taught Earth and Physical Science for 26 years at Lackland ISD and 9 years at SAISD, retiring in 2005 from Virginia A. Stacey High School at Lackland Air Force Base.

He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Southwest Texas State and completed a Master's degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. John will be greatly missed.

SERVICES Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 from 3:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. The Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with interment to follow at Bexar Cemetery in Somerset, Tx.
