Eric D. Godwin

Class of 1982

It is with a saddened heart that I am sending this email to Lackland High School Alumni students and staff. On November 5th, 2002 we lost a well loved and endearing alumni, Eric Godwin, Class of 1982. Eric has touched so many lives and in so many ways, leaving many indelible and happy memories. Eric was a proud father of four and recently became a grandfather. He had served our country as a member of the Air Force; and fought in Desert Storm. He continued serving our country through the reserves; and in an email from September 2001 indicated he was ready to go fight terrorism overseas (his actual words were "I've got to tell ya, if I'm chosen to deploy overseas....Santa Claus is coming to town!!!!"). Eric was living in Colorado Springs, Colorado and worked for Veridian. Eric will be laid to rest in Savannah, Georgia where his parents reside.

The funeral will be held on Thursday November 14th, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Eric's parents church (listed below). Pastor Rev. Vernon Galloway will be presiding over the services.

Eric's parents information is:

Eric's brother Billy (Class of 1981) can be reached at the same address and phone number. His email address is godwinjunior1@netzero.net. The family invites emails and phone calls. They would love to hear from Eric's friends.

I had the pleasure of seeing Eric in July of 2001 at the all-class reunion after 20 years. He was still that full-of-life person I remember from school; taking every opportunity to turn events and encounters into humorous and enjoyable ones. I did get to see a different side of Eric that I didn't pay attention to in school; a bright and intellectually talented person. No wonder he was so successful in the IT industry.

Eric Godwin will be greatly missed. A part of me is waiting for an email from him telling us this is not real but just him joking around. I wish that was so. In memory, I have extracted from the 1979 - 1982 yearbooks a highlight of Eric's high school activities and awards. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Eric knows his talents and passion for life went far beyond these achievements.
