John Mercado

Class of 1975

 


Juan "Johnny" Rafael Mercado, age 50, went to be with Our Heavenly Father, on February 10, 2009, after a lengthy and brave battle with his health since July 2008. He joins his brother, Jose "Joe" Luis Mercado and his Grandparents, especially his "Mami"-Patricia Rossello Lopez de Victoria.  During his last weeks, he assured us that both Joe and Mami were awaiting him and he was at peace. John was born in Ontario, Canada, on September 15, 1958.  He graduated from Lackland Air Force Base High School in 1975 and attended Incarnate Word College and completed his studies in California. Later, John served his country in the United States Air Force. John is survived by his parents, H.R and G.M. Mercado, as well his children Johnny, Cody, Robin and Tiffany, Deirdre and lastly, John Jr. and Kaleen plus 5 grandchildren. The remainder of his family includes his oldest sister, Linda (Bill) and his two nieces, Kelsey and Kailey and his younger sister, Sussie (David) and his two nephews, Andrew and Parker. Cuchi is also survived by extended family in South Carolina, including his God-mother, Rosalina Mercado. A private family service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2009; followed by, a military burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family would like to express their heart-felt appreciation to all the staff at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital System who took care of John.
